St. Petersburg – Pskov – Veliky Novgorod – St. Petersburg

Day 1. St. Petersburg – Pskov, 445 km
Leaving St. Petersburg, we head west toward the Soikinsky Peninsula. Along the way, we stop in Koporye to explore the fortress of the same name – a striking example of medieval defensive architecture.
Our route takes us through the lands of former Ingria, home of the Izhora people. We’ll dive into their history at a local museum. Turning north and riding along Lake Peipus and the Pskov Lakes, we eventually reach Pskov – one of the oldest cities in Russia.
In the evening, we’ll enjoy a walk along the Velikaya River embankment, visit the Pskov Krom (Kremlin) and other landmarks of the Pskov region’s capital, followed by an atmospheric dinner in 17th-century merchant chambers.
Day 2. Pskov – Veliky Novgorod, 340 km
In the morning, we visit the true gems of the Pskov region – the Pskov-Pechory Monastery and the Izborsk Fortress, founded as far back as 862. Riding along beautiful secondary roads that wind through forests and small villages, we make our way to Veliky Novgorod.
After checking into the hotel, we set out to explore the historic center of this medieval city. St. Sophia Cathedral and the Millennium of Russia Monument, both located within the Kremlin, reveal the rich history of the former capital of the Novgorod Republic.
Day 3. Veliky Novgorod – St. Petersburg, 370 km
Our return ride to St. Petersburg takes us through numerous modern holiday villages of the Leningrad Region – areas that were once favored country retreats of the imperial nobility.
We’ll visit the Nabokov Estate and ride through places connected with the Pushkin–Hannibal and Eliseev families. A special mention goes to the small settlement of Lisino-Korpus, home to Emperor Alexander II’s hunting lodge and other buildings designed by architect Benois. The final stretch to St. Petersburg passes through the imperial residences of Pavlovsk and Tsarskoye Selo.
