Motorcycle tour of Indonesia: Bali, Java, Lombok, and Sumbawa. Travel across four islands

Motorcycle Tour of Indonesia from Bali to Java, Lombok, and Sumbawa: Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, Sunrise at Mount Bromo, and Swimming with Whale Sharks in Saleh Bay

This tour shows you Indonesia from different sides: tourist-friendly Bali, wilder Java with its volcanoes and canyons, green Lombok, and little-known Sumbawa with its jungles and Saleh Bay. In two weeks, you will see Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, watch the sunrise at Bromo, ride winding mountain roads to Ijen, live by the ocean, and stay at the foot of Rinjani.

The route is planned so that driving days, nature spots, and rest days are well mixed. We will ride through jungle roads, coastal roads with white sand beaches, take ferries between islands, and enjoy one of the most exciting parts of the trip – swimming with whale sharks in Saleh Bay.

Route:
Bali – Red Island Beach – Tumpak Sewu Waterfall – Mount Bromo – Mount Ijen – Ubud – Batu Riti (Lombok) – Sekongkang (Sumbawa) – Aiapaya – Rinjani (Lombok) – Bali

Day 1. Bali, arrival

Arrive in Bali and transfer to the Bukit Peninsula, Uluwatu or Nusa Dua area. Check in to the hotel, meet the group and guides, and talk about the upcoming route.

Day 2. Uluwatu/Nusa Dua – Red Island Beach, 220 km, 1-hour ferry

In the morning we leave the Bukit Peninsula, drive along the causeway, go around Denpasar, and head south to the Gilimanuk ferry. A short one-hour ferry takes us to Java, where we ride along the coast to Red Island Beach. On the way, we visit the magical De Djawatan Forest – thick tree branches make you feel like you’re in a fantasy movie.

Day 3. Red Island Beach – Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, 250 km

Today we ride to one of Indonesia’s most photogenic waterfalls – Tumpak Sewu, which means “thousand streams.” On the way, we visit beautiful Papuma Beach, mostly visited by locals, and have lunch with a view of fishing boats in the lagoon. Then we stop at Gladak Perak Bridge, built over hardened lava flows from Mount Semeru, which erupted in November 2025. We stay overnight at a hotel right next to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall with views of Mount Semeru.

Day 4. Tumpak Sewu Waterfall – Mount Bromo, 120 km

In the morning we take a shuttle to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, go down, and walk around the viewpoints. After the walk, we return to the hotel, get on our motorcycles, and ride toward Mount Bromo. Winding roads, small villages, monkeys on the roadsides, and authentic Indonesian life await us. We reach Bromo through the sand, take photos with the volcanoes in the background, and check into the hotel.

Day 5. Mount Bromo – Mount Ijen, 226 km

Early morning we switch to jeeps (classic Toyota Land Cruiser 40s) and go to the Bromo viewpoints. We climb the stairs, look into the bubbling crater, watch the sunrise over the famous caldera, and return to the hotel. Then we ride motorcycles down to the north of the island, drive a bit along the ocean, turn back into the jungle, and follow a beautiful winding road to the Mount Ijen area, where we stay overnight.

Day 6. Mount Ijen – Ubud, 200 km, 1-hour ferry

We ride to the port, board the ferry, and return to Bali. During the crossing, we rest after the busy days on Java and enjoy the views of the volcanoes on both islands. From the shore, we take the upper road past Lake Bratan, stop at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, and arrive in Ubud in the evening – the green heart of Bali.

Day 7. Ubud, rest day

Today we rest from the motorcycles. You can walk through Ubud’s streets, go shopping, get a massage, or take a Balinese cooking class. For those who want to be active – a trip to Kintamani with views of Mount Batur or a walk through the Tegalalang rice terraces. In the evening, we go to a local theater for traditional dances, and then to a bar to celebrate the halfway point of our trip.

Day 8. Ubud – Batu Riti (Lombok), 140 km, 5-hour ferry

Early wake-up and ride to Padang Bai port, where we board the ferry for a five-hour crossing to Lombok. On the ferry we have lunch, rest, and slowly take in the new views from the deck. We start exploring Lombok from its southwestern islands: we stop at a viewpoint overlooking the coast, the Wallace Line, and Bali, visit the traditional Sade village, and stay overnight on the coast near Batu Riti.

Day 9. Batu Riti – Sekongkang (Sumbawa), 150 km, 2-hour ferry

We ride to the Mandalika racetrack – walk along the start-finish line and buy official MotoGP merchandise. Then we ride along the slopes of Mount Rinjani toward Kayangan port, board the ferry, and cross to Sumbawa. From the ferry, a beautiful coastal road takes us toward Sekongkang, where we stay overnight in an oceanfront hotel – swim, watch the sunset, and relax.

Day 10. Sekongkang – Aiapaya, 280 km

Today is a true jungle day. Most of the route goes through dense Indonesian tropical forests: we ride narrow, winding roads surrounded by wild greenery – sometimes it feels like the jungle is closing in above the road. By evening, we reach the north coast of Sumbawa and check into a hotel on Saleh Bay.

Day 11. Saleh Bay, rest day

Early wake-up and a short transfer to the boat, which takes us to the middle of Saleh Bay. Here we will safely swim with giant but completely peaceful whale sharks. We return to the hotel around noon, then free time – rest by the pool or walk around the area.

Day 12. Aiapaya – Rinjani (Lombok), 240 km, 2-hour ferry

It’s time to turn the route back toward Bali. We ride to Pototano port, board the ferry, and cross again to Lombok. On the other side of the island, a beautiful road awaits us toward the foot of Mount Rinjani, with views of green slopes and villages. We stay overnight at a mountain hotel at the foot of Rinjani.

Day 13. Rinjani – Bukit (Bali), 220 km, 5-hour ferry

Today we return to Bali on one of the most beautiful roads of the tour – along Lombok’s north coast. On the way, we stop at Tiu Kelep Waterfall, where you can cool off in fresh water surrounded by tropical greenery. Then we ride along white sand beaches to the port, board the ferry, and in the evening we are back on Bali, in the Bukit area.

Day 14. Bukit, final day in Bali

We return the motorcycles and continue relaxing, now without riding. We go to the best beaches in Bali, swim, sunbathe, and take final photos by the ocean. In the evening, we have a farewell party at a Beach Club and celebrate the end of our Indonesian expedition.

Day 15. Flight home

Transfer to the airport and flight home.
